The BEST Place I’ve EVER Stayed.

I’ll start by saying this is NOT a paid post. I don’t get any kickbacks. I didn’t get any sort of discount. I am just so in love with this place that I can’t shut up about it. Let me start by telling you how we found it. So, we flew from Oahu to the Big Island on the earliest possible flight to Kona. I believe we arrived around 6am. We had an AirBnB booked, on the completely other side of the island near Pāhoa. We took our time getting there. We couldn’t check in until 3pm anyway. On the […]

Fun in the Fort: Revitalization at its finest

I have lived just across the Indiana/Ohio border from the Fort Wayne area for seventeen years. Early on, there weren’t a whole lot of reasons to make the 25 min trip. Maybe to go to the mall. Or for an event at the Coliseum… Every once in awhile, a Wizards game. That’s all changed now. It all started when the Wizards changed their name and moved downtown. Parkview Field was constructed, and the newly named TinCaps brought with them the change the city was needing. Or at least that’s the way it seemed to an observer from Ohio. I realize […]

Lafayette #1 – Adventures in NOLA

I never had any doubts that I was going to love New Orleans. There are few places that I’ve been that I don’t develop an affection for (ahem, looking at you Louisville…), but the way I feel about this place, well that’s something far beyond affection. My husband and I were in town with friends to embark on a cruise to Progreso and Cozumel, and we worked in both a day and a half before and a day and a half after to make sure we had time to enjoy the city. The day of the cruise, we didn’t have to […]

Petroglyphs + Secret Canyon

So, after we left Arches and that hellish hike, we stopped at the Moab Diner for a quick bite. I cannot recommend this place more strongly – and if you don’t try the green chili, you might as well not bother. I got the Chorizo Sweetwater Skillet, with green chili on the side. It was OMG. Next we headed towards Canyonlands, because if the state you are in has FIVE national parks, it only stands to reason that you must hit them all. No other state has as many NP as Utah, and they are each unique and beautiful. (Bryce Canyon […]

Bryce Canyon – Hiking the Hoodoos

So, the main reason I wanted to visit Bryce Canyon was the stars. Word on the street is that the stars here are epic. Due to the lack of light pollution. Sadly, though, the moon was nearly half full, so it was too bright. Plus it was cloudy half the night we were here, so no epic stars for me. I was sad. Until we got up to head out on the Navajo Trail/Queen’s Garden Trail. It wasn’t super easy to find the trailhead, because the maps all say it starts at Sunset Point – but you have to find […]

Michigan’s Upper Peninsula

You may or may not be aware that Michigan is made up of two peninsulas – the Lower and the Upper. Both are surrounded by four of the five Great Lakes. I love the Lower Peninsula. From Detroit to Grand Rapids. From Lansing to Mackinaw City. There is something to see and do in every nook and cranny. But, oh my word. Unless you’ve been to the Upper Peninsula, you have no idea how much more beautiful it is. Lake Huron is great. Lake Michigan is beautiful. But Lake Superior… that is unlike any lake you’ve ever seen in your […]

Cincy isn’t so bad. But I still don’t love the Reds.

I know this thing I’m about to say makes me weird. I’m okay with that. I am a die-hard Pittsburgh Pirates fan. Have been since my first game. I know they except for the last two seasons they have been miserable. The last time they were good, I was in high school – and those were the days. They made it to the playoffs three times in a row, only to be denied first by the Cincinnati Reds and then twice by the Atlanta Braves. I hate them both. Or, rather, I still hate the Braves with all the fury […]

Norway: Land of the Vikings

So, to be completely honest, Norway was not ever on my list of places to see before I die. I am pretty open about that when I talk to my Norwegian friends (yes, I actually have a ton), and because I’m now a huge advocate for the lovely country, I think they forgive me. In fact, it was so not on my list that I had no intention of ever going there. I was dead wrong. Like way past dead wrong. Norway is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. The Fjords are gorgeous. I’ve never felt safer in […]
