Taking the entrepreneurial path isn’t an easy thing to do.
Sticking with it is even harder.
And perhaps the hardest of all is taking risks when what you’ve been doing has been working – or working well enough.
About two years ago, when I had been running my business for 12 years, I took a good hard look at the state of all things business related. I was definitely in the working well enough stage, and while I wasn’t making a crap-ton of money, I was getting by. I was usually able to pay my bills, and when I couldn’t, I’d make up for it the following month.
The result of the good hard look was that I was not happy with the state of all things business related.
I was getting by. I was designing websites for people. But I was not making a difference in the world, and that’s what I’m really passionate about.
I was paying my bills, but paying the bills does not equal freedom – and freedom is the thing I value most.
So I fixed it.
Do I make $10k every month? Not yet. But that’s my average, and it’s steadily going up.
Want to know what I did?
First thing, I stopped buying cookie-cutter courses and created my own thing. And it works.
I have always been obsessed with understanding myself more, but this time I decided to take it to a different level:
- I read everything I could about my sun, ascendant and moon signs (yes, astrologically speaking – I’m Sag/Aries/Scorpio, in case you are wondering)
- I devoured books about my Myers-Briggs combo (I’m an ENFP)
- and I dove headfirst into my Enneagram type (I’m a 7w8).
I took what I learned and turned it into a system of living and working that works for me.
What I have learned over the last fourteen years is that you can take every course that’s ever been created, and unless you are exactly like the person who created it (and spoiler alert: you aren’t), you will not get their same results.
Then I got really real with myself about Systems.
Oddly enough, I’ve been resisting them for nigh over a decade because I didn’t want to take the time to implement them. I convinced myself that I was way too busy, and the way I’ve been doing it works well enough.
The true to path to ease and freedom lies in implementing systems that work for your individualized situation. You don’t need ALL the systems – but you do need systems that support the bits of you that aren’t the strongest.
Finally, I hired someone to help me get out of my own head + joined a couple of masterminds.
Step 1 and 2 were important. But Step 3 was vital.
This was another thing I’d been resisting.
I didn’t need a coach because I KNOW what to do to be successful. I’ve helped hundreds of clients do it.
Except, when it comes to MY business, I freeze. I get cold feet. I run back to the safety of the way I’ve always done it.
This is not the way to move forward.
The coach(es) and the mastermind(s) helped me get out of my own way. They helped me realize that not only can I do this – I can do it really well.
As it turns out, I’ve turned this method of mine into a course/coaching hybrid.
You do some of it on your own, I hold your hand through some of it, and you utilize the hive mind of our private Facebook group for anything left over.
