So, I’ve been an entrepreneur for over FIFTEEN years now (holy crap, that’s a long time).
I was an OG Virtual Assistant before being a Virtual Assistant was even a thing. I was the right hand gal for one of the biggest women entrepreneurs. I’m not gonna name drop, but I helped her build her signature program in its first few iterations, and over 30,000 women have now taken it.
When I say I was a VA before being a VA was a thing, I mean what I say. I had $64k in credit card debt (that my husband didn’t know about) and two toddlers + a baby, and I had no way to pay it off. I found my first client on Craigslist. For real.
I didn’t start my business because it was what I loved. I didn’t have a website when I first started.
I didn’t think I needed one.
I had no intention of being anything but a support to people who were running online businesses – and I certainly had no plan to continue after my debt was paid off.
It was during the time working for the big-name entrepreneur that I was pushed to learn web design. She could only afford me OR a web designer – not both. She asked if I could do it, and my immediate response was “Of course I can!”
I had no idea what I was doing. But I figured it out.
I learned how to do the code side from Google – but I learned the marketing and design piece from one of the best there is.
I took that learning and added my own intuitive twist to it. When I am working with a client, I can literally see what their website should look like even before we start.
I take their essence and transform it into the online version of them.
So, when I say I have some advice on your website, you can believe that I know what I’m about.
These are the 5 Things You Must Have For A Great Brand/Website.
An authentic brand
If you just randomly picked some colors you like, or took a cute selfie with your phone and you are trying to build a brand off of those, please stop. Branding is a crucial piece of showing up in an authentic way, and is non-negotiable if you want to show up as a pro.
You should walk away from the branding/website process with a branding book, a gorgeous, unique website, and anything else that was agreed upon.
If you are interested in building an authentic brand that will attract your ideal clients, hit me up 😉
Actually great pictures
I will always advocate for hiring a great photographer. My most recent pictures were taken by one of my absolute favorites. Pictures from the past were also taken professionally and I absolutely love them too – but there WAS a time that I couldn’t get time with any of my go-to gals, so I took a tripod and my cell phone out to the wild and got the pics I needed all by myself. If you know what you are looking for, this is completely fine. They got my project rolling, and I couldn’t use the excuse that I was waiting for a good photographer.
Sidebar: this excuse of waiting for a good photographer is one that I know some of you are using right now. Or you are trying to lose weight, or whatever excuse it is that you are using to keep yourself playing small. Stop it. Now.
Please don’t take that to mean that I think you don’t need a photographer. If you can get one, get one. A good photographer who knows what they are doing will bring out a side of you that you didn’t even know existed.
Oh, and for goodness sake, seriously – no selfies.
Fonts that make sense.
Please don’t just pick a popular script font and a random other font. Your fonts must be readable. They must fit your personality. And they must actually work together. You need to limit yourself to three fonts, max. One that is the basic text, one that is a heading, and I’ll let you have a script font, but for pete’s sake, don’t overuse it.
Be the Guide, not the Hero
You are here to guide people, not be the hero. If you want people to resonate with you and your work, you have to show them how you can help them get to where you are.
Tell them that you have been there, and show them how they can learn and grow by working with you.
Your copy must reflect that premise.
But don’t overdo it with the copy. Let a pro distill your message into its purist form and stick to it. You will lose people if you overload them with too much information.
And finally, make sure you aren’t making it all about you – but about how you can help them solve their problems.
Show up Boldly
So, something that you need to know about showing up boldly, is that it’s impossible if you don’t know who you truly are.
I mean, like really, really know who you are. All the beautiful amazing things that you like to show off + all the stuff you’d rather keep hidden and being okay with all of it.
When you hit that point…
When you know who you are
And you know what you were meant to do in the world
And you understand that if you DON’T do those things, you are doing the whole rest of the world a disservice by hiding out…
It’s a hell of a lot easier to start moving in the world in a bold way.
I mean like WAY easier.
That’s why I offer Boldness Coaching.
It’s not something you can develop easily on your own. It’s a thing you have to grow and cultivate and learn from someone who is doing their very best to be the boldest them they can possibly be (that’d be me…).
You need a cheerleader. Someone who has an intuitive gift for this shizz and almost a decade and a half under her belt as an entrepreneur.
The fact is, I’m a Manifestor, and when you coach with me, it’s like I lend you a little of my energy for a bit.
There is no way you won’t start being the bold you that God is calling you to be.
It’s time to stop playing small.
Just throwing up a website and hoping it will be enough to attract your ideal clients isn’t enough.
There are so many things that go into building a successful website – the branding, the user experience, the copy, the navigation – all designed to give clarity to your ideal client, by helping them easily decide you are the one for them, and that they have to pay you for your services.
You can hire a person to do each piece of this for you – or you can hire me. I do it all.
I’ve been working on a rebranding and consolidating my 15 lanes down to something manageable and she totally understands and is so easy to work with and was able to decipher what I wanted everything to look like . Her first brand book she sent me hit the mark exactly without any tweaks. She took my existing logo and made it fit what I’m doing.
I love her I trust her and she’s stuck with me for life.
Amanda does fantastic work. She is incredibly easy to work with and responds timely to all questions and requests. Highly recommended!
